Selected Letters

A few letters were written by Marilyn's family
to update those concerned for her. We have placed
each letter here with the date it was sent out.

October 27, 2011

On Wednesday, October 19, Marilyn Graver suffered what her doctors have described as a devastating stroke. Ray was with her in their room when this occurred, shortly after they had enjoyed breakfast together. He summoned emergency help immediately, and she was taken by ambulance and eventually flown to the leading stroke facility in Dallas.

After reviewing the initial tests, her surgeon presented a grave picture. Surgery was an option but the long-term outlook was almost certainly one of severe handicap. Even her survival through surgery was in question. After a few moments together, the family asked the doctor to proceed with whatever heroic measures were necessary to preserve her life.

She did pass through surgery, and the doctor was able to successfully clear the area of trauma. After surgery, we waited to see if she could regain consciousness and what healing could take place. During a period of several days, we sat with her constantly, enjoying the precious gift of sitting in her tender and loving presence. This was a great comfort to her husband, children, grandchildren and many saints who came to hold her hand, feel her warmth, sing and pray and call on the Lord with her, and ultimately to just enjoy her person.

As the days continued her medical prognosis did not change significantly in any direction. Blood pressure, pulse and other vital functions remained stable. More concerning, however, was seemingly no evidence of improvement in the stroke affected areas and her inability to respond or wake up. The Lord brought us more doctors and specialists to pour over her case, looking for some sign that could indicate meaningful improvement. Unfortunately, they all concluded that the damage was very serious.

At this point her family faced decisions about her continuing care. Much prayer and fellowship and seeking the Lord together brought in His clear leading and peace. On the morning of October 27, just over a week after entering the hospital, Marilyn successfully passed through a small procedure to establish a direct breathing route. Subsequent to that, she will be given the opportunity to breathe on her own. She will continue to be nourished, medicated, and cared for in the ICU. At this time, her family is comforted that she will be able under her own will and the Lord’s to remain with us, or to be with Him.

“...life is full of many things and I am so happy
that the Lord is our Shepherd all the way through.
He has blessed me in thousands of ways...”

-- Marilyn Graver, October 2011

October 30, 2011

On Lord’s Day, October 30, 2011 Marilyn Graver went to be with the Lord at about 12:30 in the afternoon. She was surrounded with family the entire morning and departed gently and peacefully as we sang hymns to the Lord. We would all testify that her departure was fully according to the Lord’s tender care.

There will be a memorial gathering in Irving, Texas on Saturday, November 5, 2011. The exact time and place will be announced shortly. In the meantime, if the saints would like to write their stories and remembrances of Marilyn, we hope that these could be compiled.

In closing, the family would like to praise the Lord for His sovereign care for Marilyn and her family over these last 12 days. We have been upheld by Him through all your prayers.
